This verse makes me laugh and realize even more how (in many instances) the Bible is relatable even today. Even in the Bible times, people struggled with pride. Read the first part of that verse over. Do you know a person who thinks they know it all? I have (foolishly) been that person! You cannot learn anything when your attitude and heart is not willing or ready to learn. There really is no hope for that person to grow if they cannot see their lack of knowledge. Although many of us are highly educated in many different ways (through school or life experience), one thing is for sure–when it comes to God (and the matters of God), we could always learn more! Open your heart to learning more about Him, His ways and His path for your life and you will have hope for finding the finer (not foolish!) things in life.

When I first read this verse, a person popped in my head and that person was not me! How prideful of me to forget that I have been this exact fool in so many different ways! Lord, I have laughed at the thought of needing a God when my life was going all right. As soon as things turned for the worse, I realized how fragile and wrong I was! I look at the world around me and I see the same kind of confident arrogance on the faces of strangers on the street. I wonder sometimes what it will take for them to see what you have shown me…that everyone needs you. Your mercy is what sustains our very life and health, yet so many take that very fact for granted. I want to stop today and thank you. Thank you for letting me get burned by my own mistakes so that I could see that I need you. Lord, please bless the ones that don’t quite see yet how much they need you and how good you are. In Jesus’ precious name, so we can have that life you died to give us, Amen.”
